An exedra was one of those places: a space for gathering, discussion and the exchange of ideas.
We wanted to bring that principle into the digital age.
exedra is built for students who don't only want to consume knowledge. They want to contribute it. Challenge it. Improve it. And leave something behind for the person who comes next.

Historically, "exedra" described an architectural space — often a seated recess, alcove or curved bench — associated in various contexts with conversation, teaching and intellectual exchange. Its function varied across periods and places; we take inspiration from the concept rather than from any single monument.

What we're building
An academic network, not a content feed.
exedra is a place where students publish their notes, review each other's work, answer difficult questions and build a public record of what they actually know.
Around that core sits everything a serious academic community needs: subjects and topics, reputation and ranks, bounties for hard problems, clans for study houses, and verified space for professors.
Nothing here rewards scrolling. Everything rewards contribution.
Why students?
The best explanation of a topic usually comes from someone who just learned it.
Students are the ones sitting with the material right now. They know which step of the proof is confusing, which definition is badly worded, and which past paper question keeps catching people out.
exedra is student-led by design: the network is built out of what students choose to contribute, and reputation belongs to the people who contribute it.
Professors add expertise and context on top — they don't replace the student layer.
Why competition?
Competition is how a community keeps its standards.
XP records contribution. Ranks turn that record into a long progression, from the first note you publish to the highest tiers of the ladder.
Bounties put stakes on hard questions. Clans make studying social. Leaderboards, including Most Improved, measure movement rather than only totals — so progress counts, not just a head start.
The point is not to beat other students. It is to make effort visible, and to make quality worth pursuing.
Why humans?
The hardest problems are deliberately left to people.
Tools and structure are useful for organising knowledge: cataloguing notes, ordering topics, making a page easier to study from.
But the moment a genuinely difficult problem is handed off, the community stops learning from it. So exedra keeps the hard part human — bounties are solved by students, The Unsolved is conquered by students, and reputation is earned by students.
Structure organises. People understand.
The future
Students and professors in one structure.
Students build the knowledge base. Professors verify, correct and deepen it — and the students whose contributions speak for themselves become impossible to overlook.
A verified academic record built through real contribution should be worth something beyond a profile page. That is the direction exedra is heading.
The architecture
The columns in the Hall of Fame are not decoration.
Each subject in exedra carries its own architectural order, and each order is built from the contributions of the students who opened that subject's doors.
A column stands for knowledge assembled across generations — one person adding to what the last one left behind. Founding Students and Subject Pioneers are the names written into that structure, permanently.
